Looking Back – By Liam Sinnott

The year 2011 will be a big chapter in the history books of Irish Surfing. A year when Europe’s best surfers came to Bundoran  Donegal to fight out for Eurosurf 2012. A year when Fergal Smith pushed the boundaries of Irish Surfing both at home and on an International level. In Febuary 2011 the Irish Surfing Association, Irish Tow Rescue Club, Billabong and Monster Energy held the first Tow-In Surf competition at Mullaghmore Head County Sligo and what more can I say, the rest is history……..

Ireland Feb. 2011 – BILLABONG ADVENTURE DIVISION

Twenty foot plus Mullaghmore Head Perfection welcomed the coming of age of Ireland’s big wave scene. The inaugural big wave invitational sponsored by Billabong and Monster Energy was won by Eric Ribiere and Benjamin Sanchis in front of a packed headland who witnessed a day of never seen before Irish big wave tow in competition! “That left is crazy. One of the best lefts I’ve surfed in my entire life” said Eric Rebiere.

Meanwhile up the road in Bundoran, Bexter Productions captured a few of Ireland and the UK top surfers who did’nt care much for jet ski’s!
